CrossbowPig Reviews Issue #1: Donkey Kong

Welcome to the first issue of CrossbowPig's game reviews! As this is my last year on the blog, my goal is to get to at least ten reviews, and then at the end rank them all in a list.

This week, we will be reviewing Donkey Kong, the flash version. Now, what I'm about to say in this blog post, you might not agree with, but, well, the sad thing is that, in the end, the flash version of Donkey Kong is not that good of a game.
Note: This is what you expect, not what you get.
Gameplay: Well, it's Donkey Kong, and although people will TELL you that it's aged well, it really hasn't. The jump physics are stiff, and often end up in mis-calculated deaths. Fall damage is present, and not fun; I once fell through a ladder on a jump and died in mid air. Hammers? Not present in the Flash Version. In fact, the flash version lacks any sort of losing lives (the counter goes down to 2, then back up again.) and levels past 25M are not present. The flame guy at the bottom isn't even anything to worry about; he sort of just stays there. The barrels just keep coming, and eventually you notice their pattern and get up to the top again and again and "win." Also, your score resets after each life lost and level "beaten". So, on the gameplay front, it gets a 4, because even through all of these, it's still somewhat addicting.

Sound: It's Donkey Kong, and even though the good 'ol music loop never gets old, the sound effects are grating. The audio is incredibly compressed even for a flash game, and begins to drone on you. In the sound category, it gets a 4. I played with the sound muted.

Graphics: The 8-bit graphics are actually easy on the eyes, and the porting team decided to revamp the HUD. The game actually is better as a result, and I appreciated the revamped life counter. Overall, the game gets a 7 in graphics.

Difficulty: This game? Eh. Not all that difficult, just sort of the benchmark for average difficulty. Challenging, but not very much so. This game is rated as Normal

Verdict: With all of these scores tallied up, and the factor of my own personal enjoyment added in, I calculated the score through an extremely complicated process and gave it the score of a
3-Bad
This is because of the repetitive gameplay, droning sound effects, difficulty, and barely improved gameplay.
However, this game isn't AWFUL. If you're bored, attempt to play it or look for a better version, because it's still Donkey Kong.

Next Review: Pac-Man
This is CrossbowPig, signing out.
