Feminism?

Feminism is kind of a controversial topic on the internet. (And real life) I think that feminism is such a big deal mostly because of misconceptions. To set things straight, feminism is simply believing that both men and women should have equal rights. Feminists don't believe that women are greater than men, or that they should rule the world, or any other insanely incorrect assumptions that people make. Some people make assumptions on things that they're not completely clear on. It takes about five seconds to search up a definition, yet lots of people choose to make (often false) assumptions. The official definition; "the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men"  In layman's terms; the belief that women and men should be equal, as I've said.
In my eyes, the name ¨feminism¨ does give kind of an off impression. A better name might be ¨equalism,"or something along those lines. That's just my view.
It shocks me that feminism even has to exist. And I'm not just saying this because I am a woman, I'm saying this because it's unfair. Don't you think that god, or science, or whatever you believe in created us to be equal? Both genders are equally as important to this world. The women are the ones who carry children for nine months, the women are half the reason that we have such an advanced world today. They're just as important as men, and the fact that feminism has to exist to bring a little more equality is upsetting. Same thing with racism, or any other form of discrimination. We're all humans, we all made a living for ourselves. Feminism is important, it's not a clan or girls who want to rule the world or something insane. It's just people who believe in equality, nothing more. Even if you don't believe in gender equality, okay, maybe consider for a little longer, but okay. I'm not writing this to convince people to be feminists, nor am I writing this to bash people who don't believe in equality. But, at least educate yourself on what feminism means, before you declare that you're against it.
